The price of an Easter basket for a Ukrainian family has increased significantly in 2026. According to the Institute of Agrarian Economics, a basic set of traditional products will cost 1,903 hryvnias, which is 14.4% more than last year.
The standard basket includes Easter cake, eggs, sausage, bacon, lard, butter, cheeses, horseradish, and salt. If you add vegetables, fruits, and church wine, the total cost will increase to almost 2,348 hryvnias, which is already 16.8% more than in 2025.
One of the key products remains Easter cake. Over the year, its cost increased by 14.6% and now amounts to about 267 hryvnias per kilogram. This was most affected by the increase in the price of ingredients: milk rose by almost 50%, flour by over 38%, eggs by 19%. The only exception was sugar, which fell by 18%.
The most expensive components of the holiday basket traditionally remain meat products. The cost of homemade sausage has increased by more than a third, pork sausage has risen in price by 16.5%, while lard has remained almost unchanged in price.
Among dairy products, hard cheese and butter are the most expensive. Soft cheese has also risen in price significantly, by more than 30% compared to last year.
Vegetables and fruits have also not been left out of the price increase. Greenhouse tomatoes and cucumbers have risen in price by tens of percent, and apples by almost a fifth. The cost of horseradish and salt remains relatively stable, while the price of Cahors fluctuates between 160–220 hryvnias per bottle.
Experts attribute the price increase to the consequences of the war, including reduced production, higher energy prices, and logistics problems. These factors continue to put pressure on the food market and shape new prices ahead of the holidays.
Recall that we previously wrote that for Easter 2026, it is important not only to fill the basket, but also to take the right approach to its formation - the priests explained which products are mandatory for consecration, and which ones are better to refuse.
