The "Easter truce" announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin, which was supposed to begin on April 19, did not cover all areas of the front. In particular, hostilities in the Kursk and Belgorod regions continue, and Russian artillery remains active in some areas of the front.
This was announced in an address by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, commenting on the real state of affairs on the contact line.
“We are recording the real situation in all directions. Kursk and Belgorod regions — Putin’s Easter statements did not spread to this territory. Fighting continues, Russian strikes continue. In some directions on the front, Russian artillery also continues to sound, not a promise of silence from the Russian leader. Russian drones are being used. In some directions, it is quieter,” Zelensky wrote.
He explained that Ukraine's actions would be mirrored.
"The proposal for 30 days of complete and unconditional silence is on the table, the answer must be given in Moscow. Ukraine, together with our partners, is ready to move towards peace in the most constructive way possible, but Russia's appropriate readiness is needed," Zelenskyy noted.
The President of Ukraine emphasized that he expects updated information from the front in reports at midnight.
"The most important thing is that now it is clear who was really the cause of the war all this time. As soon as Putin really ordered to reduce the number and cruelty of strikes, fighting and killings became less. The only source of this war and its prolongation is in Russia," Zelenskyy stressed.
As a reminder, on April 19, BBC journalists reported that the Armed Forces of Ukraine received an order to cease fire after the start of the "Easter truce.".
