According to Finance Minister Serhiy Marchenko, the idea of economic reservation is still a subject of discussion due to its complexity, as this mechanism causes misunderstanding on the part of the military. He noted that when communicating with the military, it is difficult to convince them of the need for this mechanism.
“When you communicate with the military, you will never convince them that this needs to be done. Never. They say: let's also pay 35 thousand now and go and rest a little. And I don't know the answer to this question,” Marchenko emphasized.
Despite this, the minister recalled that the booking mechanism already exists in the country, and at the moment a million men have already been booked. “So if there was a really transparent way, where you pay taxes, register, and this allows you to at least be guaranteed that you will not be caught, immediately ‘packed’ and sent somewhere without your knowledge, it would be better,” he added.
The idea of “economic reservation,” which would reserve only high-paid Ukrainians, has sparked a wave of criticism among the military, experts, and the public, forcing the Office of the President to abandon the initiative. However, some officials are still lobbying for the idea, which has angered the military. They argue that such a system could divide Ukrainian society, as war is for everyone, not just the “poor.”.
At the same time, economists emphasize that the goal of economic reservation is not to avoid service, but to prevent economic collapse. Therefore, it is important that reservation models are discussed with Ukrainian employers to find the optimal solution for all parties.
