Former Minister Bogatyreva Sues Over Pension

Raisa Bohatyryova, the former Minister of Health and one of Viktor Yanukovych's most influential associates, has once again reminded us of herself. For the fourth year now, she has been trying to get her pension recalculated through the courts. This time, the Volyn District Administrative Court has taken over the case, which the infamous OASK failed to consider.

In the lawsuit filed back in May 2021, Bohatyryova demands that the Pension Fund of Ukraine be obliged to transfer her an old-age pension based on 90% of the salary of a current MP as of January 1, 2021. According to the calculations at the time, this is more than 20 thousand hryvnias per month. The arguments are her parliamentary experience and a reference to the law on the status of a MP.

After the liquidation of the OASK in December 2022, the consideration of the case hung in the air. But on March 3, 2025, the Volyn Court ruled to consider the case in written proceedings without summoning the parties.

According to information from declarations, back in 2012, Bohatyryova's pension was about 16.5 thousand hryvnias per month. Considering the general standard of living and the scandals surrounding her, even such an amount already caused surprise in society.

However, the Pension Fund refused to provide any information on the pensions of individuals such as Yanukovych, Azarov, Tabachnyk, or Bohatyryova. The argument is that this could create a “hostile psychological background” for them and “endanger their health.”.

However, it is not only the amount of the pension that is causing public resonance. Bogatyryova, who was accused of embezzling funds for the purchase of medicines for the Ministry of Health, in 2021 through the court achieved the restoration of access to a luxurious estate in the state dachas in Koncha-Zaspa. At one time, she built a house there as part of an “investment project,” but after the Revolution of Dignity she was deprived of the right to use the property. The trial is still ongoing.

Raisa Bogatyryova was a figure not only in politics, but also in family and business. Her sons, Oleksandr and Igor, launched large-scale schemes in the energy and pharmaceutical sectors during her ministerial term. One received state contracts worth millions for the supply of medicines, the other for the modernization of thermal power plants.

After the Revolution of Dignity, Bohatyryova left Ukraine, and in 2019 she returned, where she was immediately detained. But she was soon released on bail. Later, the Anti-Corruption Court canceled both the arrest and the preventive measure. Since then, little has been heard about her, but the legal hassle over her “deputy” pension shows that the struggle for status and privileges continues.
