Shakhtar Donetsk is close to the appointment of a new head coach. According to Turkish journalist Yagiz Sabundjuglu, the Ukrainian Club is active in negotiations with Arda Turba, known in the past by the Barcelona, Athletico and Turkey team.
The meeting between Shakhtar representatives and a 38-year-old specialist took place in London. The first attempt to agree on cooperation was back in March, but then the parties did not agree. Now, according to the source, the agreement is in the final stage.
Currently, Arda Turan works as the head coach of Turkish Eupspora, for which the former Shakhtar captain Taras Stepanenko acts. Upon completion of the season, the Turan can change the club residence.
Shakhtar is now headed by Croat Marino Pushich, who came in October 2023. Under his leadership, the team held 67 matches, won 43 victories, 10 draws and suffered 14 defeats. Currently, Donetsk residents are ranked third in the UPL standings.
Who is Arda Turan
Arda Turan is a legend of Turkish football. He is a pupil of "Galatasaraya", that is where he started and ended the player's career. In 2011, he went to Madrid Athletico, where he became a key player and won the Spanish Championship, the Spanish Cup, the European League and the UEFA Super Cup.
In 2015, Turan moved to Barcelona for 34 million euros-this made him the most expensive Turkish football player in history. For the Catalans, he won the Championship, Cup and Super Cup of Spain.
As a part of Turkey, the midfielder spent 100 matches and scored 17 goals. He was one of the leaders of the team in Euro-2008, where the Turks reached the semifinals.
After completing his career, Turan started coaching, heading Eupspor in 2023.
