From March 1, 2025, a new electricity tariff will come into force in Ukraine, which will be UAH 4.32 per 1 kWh. This tariff will be valid until April 30, 2025, after which two options are possible: either an increase in the cost of electricity, or an extension of the resolution for another year. As a rule, discussions on a tariff increase are usually finalized in May, and the increase may take place as early as June or July.
Multi-zone meters: how to save on electricity
For owners of multi-zone meters, there is a possibility of a discount on electricity. Thus, under a two-zone tariff, from 23:00 to 07:00, you can pay half as much for electricity — 2.16 UAH per 1 kWh, instead of the usual 4.32 UAH. Consumers can contact their electricity supplier and switch to a new tariff by installing a multi-zone meter.
Three tariffs apply with a three-zone meter:
- Night tariff (23:00 – 07:00) — 1,728 UAH per 1 kWh;
- Semi-peak tariff (07:00 – 08:00, 11:00 – 20:00, 22:00 – 23:00) — 4.34 UAH per 1 kWh;
- Peak tariff (08:00 – 11:00, 20:00 – 22:00) — 6.48 UAH per 1 kWh.
A three-zone meter should be installed if you have significant electricity consumption and are able to control the periods of its use to avoid peak hours.
Comparison with tariffs in Europe
Ukraine still has one of the lowest electricity tariffs in Europe. Of the 39 countries for which Eurostat collects information on tariffs, 29 have higher electricity tariffs and 9 have lower ones. The electricity tariff in Bulgaria, in particular, is almost at the Ukrainian level.
For comparison, in Moldova, the electricity tariff has been increased to 4.1 lei per kWh (approximately 10.3 UAH) since January 2025. This increase was a consequence of the cessation of Russian gas supplies to Transnistria, and now Moldova is forced to buy electricity from Romania.
After the war, Ukraine will have to invest heavily in restoring its energy infrastructure. The economic situation will remain difficult, so it may be difficult to compensate for the reduced tariffs for the population. Therefore, an increase in electricity tariffs is inevitable, but at the moment there are no plans to revise tariffs in the near future.
