Ukrainian tennis player Elina Svitolina announced that she underwent surgery on her right leg, which ended her 2024 season early. The athlete shared this on her Instagram, noting that the injury had been bothering her for most of the past two years.
"Unfortunately, my 2024 season is already in the history books, as I had surgery on my leg today to fix a long-standing problem that I have been trying to solve throughout this year," Svitolina wrote.
This is the same injury that prevented her from completing the 2023 season and made it difficult to compete throughout 2024. According to Elina, the pain became so severe that it affected not only tennis training, but also daily life.
The tennis player expressed her determination to fully focus on her recovery and return to the court in 2025. “I am determined to do everything possible to return to the court and compete at the highest level,” Svitolina emphasized.
Elina also thanked her fans for their support during this difficult time. “Your love and positivity mean everything to me, and I look forward to seeing you on the courts in 2025,” the athlete wrote.
Recall that the last Grand Slam tournament of this year - the US Open - began on August 26. Although six Ukrainian tennis players took to the courts on the first day of the competition, Svitolina was unable to overcome the barrier of the 1/8 finals due to deteriorating health.
