An indictment has been filed in court in Transcarpathia against four people suspected of embezzling local budget funds during the construction of a sports complex in the village of Polyana, Mukachevo district. The Prosecutor's Office of the Transcarpathian region reported this.
According to the investigation, the director of the contractor, the head of one of the departments of the Polyansk Village Council, and two private entrepreneurs organized a scheme to fictitiously perform construction work. In the documents, they indicated work and materials that were not actually performed or supplied.
The scheme participants withdrew over 3.5 million hryvnias in cash under the guise of payment for materials and work. Part of the building structures, including the roof, walls, ceilings, and hatches, were reflected only in the certificates of work performed, drawn up retrospectively.
According to the prosecutor's office, the defendants in the case embezzled over 5.5 million hryvnias during the construction of a sports complex and almost 0.5 million hryvnias during the overhaul of a shelter for schoolchildren at the same school. The total amount of damages, confirmed by forensic examinations, is about 6.2 million hryvnias.
As part of the pre-trial investigation, the property of the accused was seized in the amount of over 13.6 million hryvnias. The case was transferred to the court for consideration on the merits, after which the suspects face criminal liability under articles related to the appropriation and embezzlement of budget funds.
