US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken announced the decision of the US to provide financial aid to Ukraine in the amount of $5.55 billion. This is confirmed by the statement of the US State Department, which refers to the intention of the US Ministry of Defense to direct these funds to defense goods and services for military support of Ukraine.
Financing details
The specified funds will be allocated within the framework of the law on additional appropriations for the security of Ukraine for 2024. This means that in the coming months, Ukraine will receive substantial military support in the form of weapons and military materials.
The context of American aid
It was previously reported that the $6 billion provided for Ukraine may be lost, as the deadline for their use is September 30, which is the end of the fiscal year. In this regard, the Administration of the President of the USA conducted urgent negotiations with the Congress in order to allow the use of these funds. As it became known later, the administration managed to "save" this assistance.
New types of weapons
In addition, it was recently announced that the US intends to transfer AGM-154 Joint Standoff Weapon (JSOW) aerial bombs to Ukraine. These munitions, when launched from a high altitude, can have a range of up to 130 km, while when dropped from a low altitude, this indicator decreases to 22 km. One of the carriers of JSOW is the F-16 fighter, which increases Ukraine's capabilities in conducting hostilities.
