The popular sweetener of erythytol used in carbonated beverages, protein bars and even toothpaste can adversely affect the blood vessels of the brain and increase the risk of stroke. Such conclusions were made by scientists from the University of Colorado in Boulder, the results of their study published Earth.
Researchers, under the guidance of Professor Christopher Desuz, have studied how Eryritol affects the cells lining the blood vessels of the brain for three hours. These cells are responsible for the regulation of blood flow, the control of inflammatory processes and the prevention of blood clots.
It turned out that even a small amount of eryritol disrupts the enzyme, which is responsible for the production of nitric oxide, a key substance that helps the vessels to expand. Reducing nitric oxide leads to vascular narrowing and decreased blood flow.
In addition, under the influence of the sweetener of the cell began to produce more endotheline-1-protein, which signals the vessels about the need for additional narrowing. Thus, under the influence of eryitritol, blood vessels first lose the ability to expand, and then receive signals for even more narrowing.
These processes can increase the risk of stroke and other vascular diseases of the brain, scientists warn. They recommend that you treat eryititol products with caution, especially people with vascular problems.
