In the first six months of 2025, 1,367 people died in road accidents in Ukraine, including 69 children. Another 13,895 people were injured. This data was published by the Ukravtoprom association, citing the Patrol Police.
A total of 11,194 accidents with injuries were recorded in January–June, almost the same as in the same period last year. Despite the war, threats from Russian strikes, and changes in mobility, the situation on the roads remains critical.
The leading cause of fatal road accidents remains speeding, with 751 fatalities. Second place is taken by driving into the oncoming lane (not related to overtaking), which resulted in 95 deaths. The third cause is pedestrians crossing the road in places not designated for this purpose: 67 fatalities.
These three factors became fatal for over 900 people in just six months.
In terms of time, most accidents occur in the evening — from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. This is the time when many drivers are returning from work, traffic is heavy, and fatigue has accumulated.
The most dangerous day of the week is Friday. It is on this day that the peak of accidents is recorded, which may be due to the end of the work week, haste and reduced attention of drivers.
The invariance of statistics is an alarming signal. Despite the war, partial changes in traffic and restrictions on movement, the number of road accidents with victims is not decreasing. This indicates a deep crisis in the field of road safety, which requires systemic changes - from infrastructure solutions to real control over speed limits and behavior on the roads.
