The Ukrainian law enforcement system is once again in the spotlight due to the investigation into the unauthorized abandonment of the unit by former People's Deputy Yegor Sobolev.
According to information received from sources in the Prosecutor General's Office, he has become the subject of criminal proceedings.
The criminal case alleges that Sobolev, who was listed as a machine gunner in the 251st Terroir Defense Battalion since May 2022, instead of performing combat missions, "spent his time at his own discretion and engaged in personal affairs.".
This happened, according to the SBI, with the assistance of the then battalion commander, Serhiy Kasprov.
At the same time, the former People's Deputy received financial support, including a "combat" allowance of more than 100 thousand hryvnias per month.
Sobolev was listed in the battalion until the beginning of 2023. Currently, according to official data, he is serving as the commander of a UAV company as part of military unit A4124 (112th Terroir Defense Brigade).
In January, he reported that he had received the rank of lieutenant in the Armed Forces of Ukraine ahead of schedule.
