Former People's Deputy Boryslav Bereza, who was previously accused of evading military service, was caught manipulating his status as a draft evader. According to media reports, Bereza, who left Ukraine, was unable to provide convincing evidence of his innocence and the legality of his stay abroad.
Former MP Borislav Bereza left Ukraine through the Starokozache checkpoint with Moldova in March and never returned, according to an investigation by the publication Zakon i biznes.
"For the past six months, he has persistently positioned himself on social media as being in Ukraine, creating the impression of direct participation in the defense of the country. But in fact, Bereza fled Ukraine during the war, although at the same time he promotes patriotism and the need to defend the Motherland on social media, the accounts in which he maintains, as it turns out, from abroad," the publication notes.
Journalists insist that Bereza provide at least some evidence that refutes his departure abroad. But the former People's Deputy was unable to do this. He tried to justify himself by publishing a supposedly recent photo of himself near the sign of the Dniprovsky District Trade Center in Kyiv, but later very quickly deleted it.
And on September 1, Bereza published a photo again – this time in military uniform with a machine gun and the caption that “September 1st was like this in life.” But attentive readers caught him manipulating: they noticed that the photo showed tulips and daffodils, which definitely do not bloom in September.
At the same time, sources confirm that Bereza, in addition to his Ukrainian one, also has an Israeli passport, which he received in 1993, when he lived in Israel.
There is also evidence that Bereza's family (wife, children, and mother) left Ukraine at different times in 2022-2024. He himself crossed the border 21 times during the 2.5 years of the war before finally leaving.
The publication notes that if Bereza intends to run for parliament again, he has about 30 days left to return to Ukraine.
According to media reports, while he was a People's Deputy, Bereza hid his wealth: elite real estate was registered for his wife at prices several times lower than market prices. In particular, an apartment in Kyiv with an area of almost 300 square meters, a warehouse and other real estate.
In 2008, a house with a total area of 91.2 sq. m was registered for the former People's Deputy himself in the Kyiv region, and in 2021, an Audi Q7 car.
Let us recall that in 2022, the former People's Deputy refused to sign the summons and called the police. Later, he hid in a convent.
According to media reports, Bereza is part of the so-called pool of bloggers of ex-president Petro Poroshenko, whose children are hiding from military service in London. Also evading mobilization are Poroshenko's lawyer, Ihor Golovan, his brother and son.
