On the night of February 22, explosions were heard in Lviv, which were heard at around 00:46 in the central part of the city, near the Magnus shopping center on Shpytalna Street. No airstrikes were declared in the city or region.
The first reports appeared in local Telegram channels. Ihor Zinkevich, a deputy of the Lviv City Council and head of the NGO "Varta-1", reported that dozens of law enforcement officers were working at the scene, the road was blocked, and a human body was lying on the asphalt.
According to preliminary information, among the victims are police officers who arrived on call, as well as a National Guard serviceman.
After one o'clock in the morning, the National Police of Ukraine released an official confirmation. The message notes that the explosions occurred after the arrival of patrol police units to the scene of the call. As a result of the incident, there are dead and injured law enforcement officers. All relevant services are working at the scene, they promise to provide details later.
Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovyi said that 14 people were injured as a result of the terrorist attack.
Law enforcement officers are currently establishing the circumstances of the incident, finding out what exactly exploded, and checking all possible versions. The area around the Magnus shopping center has been cordoned off, and traffic in the central part of the city has been partially restricted.
Local residents reported that the sounds of explosions were heard in several areas of Lviv. A strong smell of smoke was felt in the city center, and a significant number of special equipment and police cars were recorded.
Authorities and emergency services are urging residents to refrain from staying near Shpytalna and Horodotska streets so as not to hinder the work of law enforcement officers and rescuers.
