An unexpected change took place in the high-profile corruption case in the Odesa region: the ex-prosecutor of the Odesa region, Oleksandr Zhuchenko, was removed from the investigation into the "Odesa case" of the mayor of Odesa, Gennady Trukhanov. This news, which passed almost unnoticed by the general public, was confirmed by the Office of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAP) in a message dated August 2.
Because of this, the qualification of "OZG" in the case of NABU regarding Trukhanov and Galanternyk did not go anywhere. Because the minimum number of accomplices for OZU (5 people) is being recruited there even without Zhuchenko. But it is not completely clear what exactly the SAP/NABU are now accusing the prosecutor of.
Earlier, as part of the "Odesa case", Zhuchenko was indicted for allegedly underestimating the value of a plot of land, for the development of which employees of the prosecutor's office received 48 apartments in ready-made houses of the developer company.
The most important thing. If the prosecutor of Odesa region (at that time Zhuchenko) was "extracted" from the "Trukhanov-Galanternyk" case, it can be assumed that far from all the accusations previously voiced against him were confirmed. Therefore, the removal of the prosecutor behind bars can be considered a minimization of the risk of the collapse of the "Odesa case" in general.
That is, it is better to find one person innocent than to lose the entire chain of the scheme drawn by NABU, which leads to the mayor of Odesa?
We will see. Trials for both Zhuchenko and Trukhanov-Galanternyk are expected in September.
