Oleksandr Usyk may fight next in March 2026 against Briton Fabio Wardley, who became the official WBO title contender after defeating Joseph Parker. However, the Ukrainian has not yet shown interest in this fight, considering it financially unprofitable.
After unifying the titles in 2025 and defeating Tyson Fury, Usyk received a postponement due to injury, but now the WBO obliges him to make a mandatory defense. After Wardley sensationally knocked out Parker in the 11th round, he became the main contender for the Ukrainian's belt.
Immediately after the fight, Fabio Wardley challenged Usyk to a fight and stated:
«Usyk is a talent of a generation, but not perfect. He has weaknesses, although they are difficult to get to.».
However, the Ukrainian's team was cautious about this prospect. Manager Egis Klimas said that Usyk was not interested in risking all his belts for a low-profit fight. Team director Sergey Lapin suggested that the WBO could organize an additional qualifying fight - between Wardley and Moses Itauma.
The Briton's promoter Frank Warren, on the contrary, assures that negotiations are already underway and if the parties do not reach an agreement, promotional bidding will take place, which will determine the date, place and financial terms of the fight. Potential locations are London or Riyadh.
Most experts consider Usyk the undisputed favorite. Derek Chisora is convinced that the Ukrainian will finish the fight early - in a maximum of six rounds. Dave Allen also said that he does not see how Wardley can win. Tyson Fury, however, recalled the Briton's powerful blow:
«Usyk is a special boxer, but Fabio has heavy fists and keeps his strength until the final bell.».
Wardley's manager Michael Ofo is confident that his player has a chance:
«Usyk is experienced, but Wardley is young, hungry and dangerous.».
The fight, if it is organized, could be the first big test for Usyk in 2026, but it is not a fact that it will happen - the Ukrainian may choose a different direction for his career.
