On September 5, the Internet was shaken by information about the alleged death of People's Deputy Nestor Shufrych, who is in custody on charges of treason. However, it later became known that these reports turned out to be fake.
Strategic Communications Advisor for the State Bureau of Investigation, Tetyana Sapyan, denied the rumors, confirming that Nestor Shufrych is alive and in the hospital. According to Sapyan, his case has already been transferred to the court, and Shufrych himself is undergoing rehabilitation after surgery, so he was allowed to participate in court sessions online.
Shufrych and his assistant are accused of financing actions aimed at forcibly changing the constitutional order, seizing state power, and changing the boundaries of the territories of the state border of Ukraine. In addition, the People's Deputy is accused of high treason. According to the State Bureau of Investigation, Shufrych could face up to 15 years in prison.
Rumors about Shufrych's death first appeared on the Telegram channel of former MP Ihor Mosiychuk, who initially confirmed the information. However, Mosiychuk himself later denied his statements, indicating that the news was fake.
Tatyana Sapyan also noted that rumors of Shufrych's death are likely a reaction to the stress associated with the trial. She added that Shufrych's health is currently stable and he is doing well.
