Slovakia's Prime Minister Robert Fico made statements to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, saying that he allegedly did not offer him 500 million euros from Russian assets in exchange for supporting Ukraine's membership in NATO. These statements, which caused a wide response, were made during a speech by Fico on Wednesday, December 20, 2024.
Politico writes about it.
According to Fico, during their conversation he expressed concern that Slovakia could lose about 500 million euros in annual revenues from the transit of Russian gas. In response, according to the Slovak prime minister, Zelensky asked him whether he would support Ukraine's accession to NATO if he received this amount from Russian assets.
"And, of course, I said 'never,'" Fizo said, stressing that such proposals were made behind closed doors and are, in his opinion, "absurd."
Fico also accused Ukraine of allegedly causing economic damage to the countries of the European Union, noting that this situation is unacceptable for EU members.
Robert Fitso, who is known for his pro-Russian views, has repeatedly expressed his skepticism about supporting Ukraine in the war against the Russian Federation. His words regarding Zelenskyi's proposal have not yet been confirmed by other sources.
The Office of the President of Ukraine has not yet commented on the Slovak Prime Minister's statement.
