The first deputy head of the Zolochiv district military administration and former commander of a National Guard military unit, Mykhailo Kulik, has been exposed in new abuses. Law enforcement officials claim that during the purchase of army beds in May 2022, millions in losses were caused to the state.
According to the investigation, the cost of each set was overstated by 30%. The contractor was paid UAH 6.5 million for the supply of a thousand beds, but in reality only 180 units worth UAH 1.1 million were delivered to the warehouses. As a result, the state lost at least UAH 2.6 million.
This is not the first time that Kulyk's name has been involved in a high-profile corruption story. In 2023, he was charged in a case involving the purchase of fuel storage tanks at inflated prices, which cost the state over UAH 37 million. The case is currently pending in court.
The new charges indicate the systematic nature of the corruption schemes in which the official appears. Whether law enforcement will be able to prove the official's guilt this time will be determined by the court.
