NABU detectives and SAPO prosecutors have exposed the former acting head of one of the Central Territorial Departments of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine for demanding illegal benefits for assisting a Kyiv developer. This is the second suspicion brought against this official by anti-corruption authorities.
According to the investigation, in June 2024, the suspect suggested to a representative of a construction company to organize and ensure victory in a competition for the construction of a residential complex for military personnel and their family members in one of the districts of the capital.
The official estimated his "services" at $1.1 million. Later, according to the investigation, the amount was reduced to $690,000. To start the competitive procedure, he demanded the first tranche of $100,000.
Law enforcement officers believe that this is an attempt to use official position to obtain illegal benefits in a particularly large amount during the implementation of a housing construction project for the military.
In August 2025, the NABU and the SAPO had already reported the same official to the authorities on suspicion under similar circumstances - then it was about extorting money from another developer. Thus, the current case became the second in a series of criminal proceedings related to the activities of the former official.
The name of the person involved has not been officially disclosed. The investigation is ongoing. The court will make procedural decisions regarding the preventive measure and further consideration of the case.
Anti-corruption authorities emphasize that investigations into the use of budget funds, in particular during the implementation of programs to provide housing for military personnel, remain a priority.
