Former deputy head of the State Service for Food and Consumer Protection is suspected of embezzlement of state property

Former Deputy Head of the State Service for Food and Consumer Protection of Ukraine, Olga Shevchenko, has found herself at the center of criminal proceedings - she is suspected of official negligence, which led to the loss of state property of over a million hryvnias.

According to law enforcement officials, in August 2023, while temporarily serving as head of the service, Shevchenko signed documents that allowed two premises in the Kyiv region to be included in the list of privatization objects. At that time, these objects were actually used by the veterinary medicine unit.

However, according to the law, such real estate was not subject to privatization. As the investigation found out, Shevchenko's signature opened the way to the illegal alienation of buildings that were critically important for the work of the state structure. As a result, the veterinary unit was forced to move to rented premises, which entailed additional expenses from the budget.

According to preliminary estimates, the state lost over a million hryvnias, and Shevchenko is now facing charges under Part 2 of Article 367 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — official negligence leading to grave consequences. She faces up to five years of restriction or imprisonment.

While the investigation is ongoing, unofficially, those around the former official note that she allegedly "was not aware of the real functional use of the facilities." At the same time, law enforcement officers have doubts about the randomness of such actions.
