The prosecutor's office is investigating the illegal enrichment of former deputy mayor of Dnipro, Oleksandr Sydorenko. The investigation believes that the official fictitiously divorced his wife Kateryna back in 2016, before taking up his position in the city council.
According to law enforcement, this allowed them to hide the wealth that actually continued to accumulate in the family. Thus, between 2019 and 2021, Kateryna Sydorenko purchased several real estate properties in Barcelona, Spain, with a total value of about 8.7 million hryvnias.
Among the purchased items are residential premises at the following addresses:
-
Álaba Street, 143
-
TAULAT STREET, 181
As well as two storage rooms-parking lots:
-
TAULAT STREET, 179
-
BOLIVIA STREET, 8
The court seized all of this property as part of criminal proceedings.
The prosecutor's office notes that it has not yet been possible to officially identify Kateryna Sydorenko herself and calls on the public to help establish her whereabouts and legal status.
This is not the first time that civil servants have used fictitious divorces to avoid declaring their assets. Law enforcement officials promise to bring the perpetrators to justice if proven guilty in court.
