The Solomyanskyi District Court of Kyiv has imposed 24-hour house arrest with the wearing of an electronic bracelet on former First Deputy Minister of Energy and senior official of Energoatom Yuriy Sheyk.
Sheik was detained on December 2 in Kyiv. He was charged under Part 5 of Article 191 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — misappropriation of property through abuse of official position on a particularly large scale.
According to the investigation, in 2022, while working at Energoatom, Sheik signed an additional agreement to the civil liability insurance contract for nuclear damage. This agreement, without economic justification, increased the contract amount by UAH 18 million, which was transferred to the insurance company PJSC Prosto-Strakhuvana, which has direct ties to the Russian holding company RESO.
The prosecutor's office notes that the former deputy minister acted intentionally and colluded with other individuals. At the same time, Sheiko denied his guilt, claiming that he only signed, and all the legal, financial, and contractual departments had already approved the deal.
Now Sheiko will be under house arrest for two months with an electronic bracelet. At the same time, questions arise in society for the SAPO and NABU: will the case be limited to house arrest only, or will the punishment for cooperation with Russian structures during the war be real. After all, 18 million hryvnias could be used for dozens of drones or generators for hospitals in front-line zones.
