A bribery scandal involving law enforcement officers is gaining momentum: a pre-trial investigation has been completed into two former detectives of the Bureau of Economic Security (BEB) and a former investigator of the National Police of Kyiv region. They are accused of attempting to obtain $150,000 from the head of the company “East-West” Vasyl Vorobets.
The defendants in the case are former BEB detective Artem Matsievsky and former investigator Vladislav Bilikov. According to NABU, they pressured the entrepreneur and demanded money in exchange for lifting the arrests on the company's property. At the same time, the case against SkhidZahed has been going on since 2021 - the company is suspected of illegally receiving state compensation.
Of particular interest is the identity of the victim himself — Vasyl Vorobets, son of the former head of the Ternopil region tax service, Yevhen Vorobets. In 2020, the Security Service of Ukraine detained both of them on suspicion of extorting a $40,000 bribe.
Now Vasyl Vorobets is a victim of pressure - detectives actually blackmailed him, using their official position. The case has been referred to court. If the law enforcement officers are proven guilty, they face long imprisonment.
