Volodymyr Omelyan - a Ukrainian diplomat, ex-minister of infrastructure, major of the Armed Forces, as it turned out, did not serve a day in real life, which did not prevent him from receiving "combat" for being on the front lines and giving numerous interviews on the topic: "how to fight properly ".
With the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, many "patriotic" representatives of the elite signed up for fictitious service in the ranks of the Armed Forces. Volodymyr Omelyan was no exception, having first enlisted in the 206th, and then the 251st battalion of the TRO.
In June 2023, the battalion was sent to the front line. As soon as this became known, Volodymyr Omelyan immediately transferred to another unit of the same military unit, but already in the Rivne region, thereby securing himself in the rear. After that, he immediately went to rest on the island of Crete. A vacation permit for 17 days was issued to Omelyan on July 21, 2023 by Colonel Serhii Kasprov.
drew attention to these facts on his Facebook page. "Right before the vacation, Omelyan's unit was sent to the front line, namely in June 2023. Mr. Omelyan was immediately transferred to another unit of the same military unit, but already in the Rivne region, thus keeping him in the rear. Well, how can you not rest after such nervous stress?" Plinsky wrote.
The journalist also published a certificate dated July 19, in which the command gives Omelyan permission to travel to the island of Crete (Rethymno).
"No, vacation is, of course, a holiday, especially for our defenders. But here the matter is a little different. First, the soldiers of the unit in which Omelyan "serves" say that it is very difficult to call his stay in the unit service. They assure us that most of the time this respected gentleman is engaged in personal affairs at his place of residence," Yevhen Pilinskyi notes.
According to Plinsky, Omelyan left Ukraine on July 21 through the Ustylug checkpoint on the border with Poland.
A new round of the scandal surrounding the "fake service" of Major Volodymyr Omelyan broke out in July 2024, after information got into the media about the conduct of a series of searches by investigators of the 3rd Department of the DBR in Kyiv in the criminal proceedings registered on the fact of Omelyan's evasion of military service. illegal receipt of additional remuneration for direct participation in hostilities and illegal receipt by him of a certificate of a participant in hostilities.
The searches were conducted simultaneously in the Vyshgorod district of the Kyiv region, at the place of temporary deployment of 206 about TrO, where Omelyan was on duty from the end of February to the middle of October 2022; in Kanev, at the place of temporary deployment of 251 about TrO, in which Omelyan allegedly defended Bakhmut in March 2023; in Kyiv, where the 241st TrO regiment was located, which includes the 206th and 251st battalions; in Sarny, where the 104th Infantry Regiment was stationed, to which Omelyan counted during the searches, as well as at the place of residence of the commander of the 104th Infantry Regiment and Omelyan himself.
According to the plot of the case, in March 2023, 251 about TrO received an order to advance from Kanev to Bakhmut. Having learned about this, the head of the planning group of the headquarters, Major Omelyan, went to the East, but not to the place of deployment, but to the hotel in Kramatorsk. According to the information received by the investigators from the mobile operator, Omelyan's phone never appeared not only at the battalion's main command post, but even at the reserve one, in the deep rear. However, this did not prevent the chief of staff of 251 of the Military Police to charge Omelyan an additional 100,000 hryvnias per month "for direct participation in hostilities" and to issue Omelyan a certificate f.6 to obtain a UBD certificate.
During the searches, the servicemen of headquarters 251 were questioned about TrO, who confirmed that they had never seen him during their stay in the Bakhmut direction. It is also interesting that during the search of Major Omelyan's home, two F-1 grenades were found, apparently stolen by Omelyan in the military unit, the origin of which the ex-minister could not explain. After that, another episode was entered into the EDPR - under Article 263 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. According to journalist Volodymyr Boyko, Omelyan managed to avoid criminal liability by bribing the leadership of the State Security Bureau.
As we can see, Volodymyr Omelyan, in his desire to return to power, is ready to openly lie to Ukrainian society about his supposed service in the Armed Forces. Speculating on the topic of war, Omelyan gives comments to journalists in military uniform almost every day, although in fact he is an ordinary "evader" who can afford to travel abroad and spend an elite vacation in Crete during the war. And his "personal front" passed no further than the hotel in Kramatorsk, at the time when the fighters of his unit were dying in Bakhmut.
