On March 6, the European Union summit is scheduled to discuss a funding program for Ukraine, which will be part of a strategy to strengthen European security. French President Emmanuel Macron confirmed in an interview with the newspaper La Tribune that the funds will amount to "hundreds of billions of euros," but did not specify whether these funds will be directed solely to supporting Ukraine or to strengthening the defense capabilities of EU countries as a whole.
According to Macron, the main goal of the summit is to strengthen support for Ukraine in its fight against Russian aggression, as well as instruct the European Commission to launch a large-scale joint financing program as soon as possible. The French President emphasized that this project will be important not only for Ukraine, but also for the overall security of Europe.
"We must provide funding that will help not only Ukraine, but also the stability of the entire continent," Macron noted.
While the funding program is critical, Macron acknowledged that the project will take several years to complete. He stressed that Europe must do everything possible to maintain U.S. support, as without it, European security could be jeopardized.
This summit will be a key stage in defining directions for joint European defense and assistance to Ukraine, which is becoming especially relevant against the backdrop of the ongoing war.
