Ukraine will receive a significant batch of Caesar self-propelled artillery systems from the Franco-German group KNDS. French Defense Minister Sébastien Lecornu confirmed this on Twitter (X), noting that the contract for the supply of 12 Caesar self-propelled artillery systems was signed during an industrial forum in Kyiv.
The financing of the supplies will be carried out at the expense of Ukraine, which indicates the active participation of the Ukrainian side in strengthening its own defense capabilities. Lecornu emphasized that this agreement is part of efforts to increase France's defense capabilities and support Ukraine in the fight against Russian aggression.
Recall that in January 2024, France formed an artillery coalition to support Ukraine, which included twenty-five countries, including Belgium. They agreed to supply 72 more Caesar systems, in addition to the six that had already been transferred to Ukraine.
KNDS previously announced the creation of a branch in Ukraine to support the local defense industry. It is currently unknown how many Caesar self-propelled artillery systems are already in Ukraine. However, as of April 2024, it became known that the Ukrainian side had lost less than 10% of the Caesar self-propelled guns due to their high mobility.
