The opposition candidate for German chancellor from the Christian Democratic Union (CDU), Friedrich Merz, who previously made open calls to Chancellor Olaf Scholz to provide Ukraine with Taurus missiles, said that Germany cannot make such an important decision on its own. According to Mertz, this issue should be resolved within the framework of international cooperation, taking into account the common interests of NATO and the European Union.
As reported by NTv, a representative of the CDU party said that Berlin should consult with the United States.
"The decision should not be made alone, not in Germany, but together with Europe and America," explained Mertz, who was in Kyiv yesterday.
He also expressed doubts that these missiles are capable of significantly changing the course of hostilities.
It should be noted that by the time the new German chancellor is elected, Trump will already be the full-fledged president of the USA, who is currently opposing increased support for Ukraine and for stopping the war.
Previously, Mertz demanded that Ukraine hand over the Taurus if Russia did not stop its energy strikes. He later stated that he had not planned to issue an "ultimatum" to Putin.
