In Ukraine, the cost of utility services may be revised in the near future. The first changes in payments may appear as early as the beginning of summer. This was stated by People's Deputy Andriy Zhupanyn.
According to him, the issue of increasing water tariffs has become virtually inevitable. In addition, adjustments to the cost of electricity and heat are possible. The likely date of the changes is June 1, but specific calculations have not been made public yet.
Zhupanyn explains that the Ukrainian authorities are under pressure from international partners who insist on bringing tariffs to an economically reasonable level. According to him, this is one of the conditions for further financial support.
The most difficult situation is observed in small communities, where local water utilities operate at a loss. Some settlements in Chernihiv, Rivne, and Lviv regions have already announced their intention to increase water tariffs.
The National Bank of Ukraine also notes that after the end of the heating season, the issue of tariff adjustments will become relevant. The regulator points out that the energy system requires significant financial resources to recover from large-scale damage.
The NBU report emphasizes that keeping tariffs at a low level for a long time creates imbalances in the energy sector. At the same time, a sharp increase could increase inflationary pressure and increase the need for subsidy spending.
Currently, the current tariffs remain unchanged. The price of gas is fixed at UAH 7.96 per cubic meter until April 2026, electricity costs UAH 4.32 per kWh. However, the mechanisms for containing heat and water prices are gradually losing their effectiveness due to budget constraints.
Experts predict that the authorities will have to find a balance between the demands of international creditors and the ability of the population to pay its bills. The summer of 2026 may be a period of difficult decisions in the field of tariff policy.
