A native of Crimea who collaborated with the Russian FSB will stand trial in Kharkiv on charges of committing a number of serious crimes. These include treason, the murder of a Ukrainian serviceman, sabotage, and preparation of assassination attempts on regional leaders. The press service of the Prosecutor General's Office reports this.
According to the investigation, the accused is a resident of Yevpatoria, previously convicted several times. After the occupation of Crimea, he left for Belgorod, where he agreed to cooperate with Russian special services. In 2024, he arrived in Kharkiv with assignments from his supervisors.
In early February 2024, an FSB agent killed a Ukrainian serviceman by shooting him in the back near a house in Kharkiv. After that, the suspect attempted a series of terrorist attacks, including an attempt on the head of the Dergachiv city military administration, Vyacheslav Zadorenko. The attacker planted explosives under his car, but he noticed it in time and called law enforcement.
Another target was the head of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration, Oleg Synegubov. For his murder, the agent was supposed to receive $50,000 from the Russians. However, this crime also failed to be carried out.
In addition, the accused set fire to two military vehicles, after which he disappeared and tried to hide. He was detained in late October 2024 on a train.
The investigation charged the accused with a number of articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, including:
-
high treason;
-
intentional murder for selfish motives, on order;
-
preparation and attempted murder;
-
sabotage;
-
terrorist act;
-
illegal possession of weapons, explosives and ammunition.
If convicted, he faces life imprisonment.
This case once again confirms the Russian Federation's attempts to conduct subversive activities not only at the front, but also deep in the rear, attacking representatives of the Ukrainian authorities and the country's defenders.
