Counterintelligence of the Security Service of Ukraine has thwarted an attempt by Russian special services to steal secret military documentation. As a result of a special operation in the Odessa region, a 47-year-old engineer who worked for the Russian FSB and was trying to pass critical data about the latest Ukrainian developments to the enemy was detained.
According to the SBU, the agent got a job at a defense enterprise specifically to gain access to drawings and technologies for manufacturing spare parts for military vehicles. However, from the first days of work, his activities were under close control of counterintelligence, which even at the recruitment stage recorded his connections with Russian handlers.
The spy not only collected secret blueprints, but also carried out reconnaissance missions for air defense positions. He traveled around the region, searching for the locations of Ukrainian air defense systems and radars in order to adjust enemy fire.
During the searches, law enforcement officers seized photos of technical documentation from the suspect that he was preparing to hand over to the Russian side, as well as other evidence of his spying activities.
Currently, the traitor is suspected under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (high treason committed under martial law). He is in custody. The sanction of the article provides for life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
The Security Service emphasized that measures to neutralize FSB agent networks are ongoing in all regions of Ukraine.
