Slovakia may reduce the tariff for gas transit to Ukraine if Naftogaz concludes long-term import contracts. This was stated by the Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Svyrydenko in a comment for RBC-Ukraine. According to her, the tariff reduction is considered as an element of reducing the cost of supplies to the Ukrainian market.
Svyrydenko clarified that Bratislava's key condition is stable multi-year gas import agreements. Naftogaz is already preparing such agreements to reduce the cost of the resource for consumers and further stabilize the market. This position of the government and the company is confirmed by other Ukrainian media outlets, citing the same comment.
A potential reduction in the Slovak tariff could be an important part of a strategy to diversify routes and sources of gas supplies to Ukraine, given the fluctuating European prices and the need for projected import conditions for the heating seasons. The publications also note that the current tariff in Slovakia is higher than in neighboring destinations, so a rate revision could improve supply economics.
Previously, tensions arose around Slovak-Ukrainian gas cooperation, but current signals from Bratislava indicate a pragmatic search for a mutually beneficial transit model for imports to Ukraine. Further decisions will depend on the parameters and terms of the contracts being prepared by Naftogaz.
