Gasmen have intensified checks: who is at risk of getting a fine of hundreds of thousands

In Ukraine, during inspections of gas networks and meters, there are massive violations that can be fined for hundreds of thousands of hryvnias. The reasons may be different: unauthorized gas connection, damaged meters, interventions in the gas pipeline. However, regardless of the circumstances, if the violation is detected, even those who just inherited the house will have to pay.

The largest sanctions are charged for unauthorized connection to gas networks. For example:

  • if the consumer is disconnected from the gas for debt and he is unauthorized;
  • If an extra gas pipe that bypasses the counter was laid.

In such cases, fines can reach hundreds of thousands of hryvnias. For example, a resident of Husyatyn (Ternopil region) received 212 thousand 670 UAH for the fact that an additional gas pipe was found in the foundation of her house, which was laid during construction.

The woman claimed that she did not know about her existence, and used gas only through the counter. However, the court stood to the side of the gas, and now it is forced to pay the specified amount.

Large penalties are also charged in cases where:

  • The meter revealed traces of intervention (for example, drilled holes);
  • damaged seal;
  • The counter is found to be defective.

Thus, in the Lviv region, a woman was fined for 249 thousand 737 UAH after gas workers found 7 small holes in the meter pipe during the inspection. She claimed that they did not know how they appeared there, but the court made a decision in favor of a gas supply company.

Inspections of meters and gas networks are held throughout the country. According to representatives of Gazh networks, 95 cases of illegal use of gas were found in the Dnieper and Dnipro district in February 2025.

In addition to the penalties, gas suppliers can disconnect gas, and debt is charged through the executive service, seizing the debtor's accounts or property.

In order to avoid fines, it is important:
not only specialists should not interfere with the gas system yourself.
To pass the meters in a timely manner is done every 2-8 years, and it is already included in the tariff.
Do not damage meters and seals-any intervention can be regarded as a violation.
Check the gas system when buying or inheritance - hidden violations can be a problem for new owners.

If gas workers have found a violation - a fine is likely to be avoided. Therefore, it is necessary to take care of the legality of gas connection and the condition of the meter in order not to get into a situation that can cost hundreds of thousands of hryvnias.
