The Defense Forces of Ukraine successfully hit the Yamal and Azov landing ships, the communications center and several infrastructure facilities in the occupied Sevastopol during the night. This is reported by the General Staff of the Armed Forces.
"Yamal" has been part of the Black Sea Fleet since 1988, its crew numbers approximately 90 people, "Azov" has been part of the Black Sea Fleet since 1990, its crew numbers up to 100 people. These ships are designed for amphibious landing, transportation of weapons and cargo.
Russia has not yet officially commented on the claims about the damage to the ships. Several videos of a large-scale explosion in the center of Sevastopol appeared on social networks, which require verification.
Mykhailo Razvozhaev, the governor of Sevastopol appointed from Moscow, announced the repulse of the "most massive recent" attack on the city.
According to him, as a result of shelling of the city, one person was killed and four were injured.
With reference to its sources, the Ukrainian Telegram channel "Krymskiy veter" named one of the likely affected objects: "the main special communications center of the Black Sea Fleet of Russia on the street Mykola Muziki, 1". There is currently no independent confirmation of this information.
It is not known how many rockets were fired over the city. Razvozhaev reported the interception of "more than 10 missiles" by air defense means.
In February 2024, it was reported that the drones of the Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine sank the large Russian amphibious ship Caesar Kunikov (original name) in the Black Sea.
