Six days after a massive missile attack on Ukraine by the Russian army using Oreshnik drones, a phone call took place between the Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, Valery Gerasimov, and the American side, The New York Times , citing its own sources.
Gerasimov had a conversation with his American counterpart for the second time during the entire war. The first such call took place in October 2022.
During the conversation, Gerasimov and the head of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, Brown, "discussed issues of global and regional security, including the situation surrounding the conflict in Ukraine.".
The newspaper notes that the conversation took place during a period of heightened tensions – like Gerasimov's previous conversation with Milley in the fall of 2022, when there were also fears of Russia using nuclear weapons in Ukraine.
And ABC, citing a source among American officials, for its part, stated that Valery Gerasimov and Charles Brown "discussed how to avoid miscalculations and escalation between the countries regarding Ukraine.".
Recall that after the White House lifted the ban on "long-range" strikes, Russia strengthened its nuclear doctrine.
It should be noted that the last strike on Russian territory with ATACMS missiles occurred on November 25.
And Gerasimov's call to the Pentagon took place a day later, on November 27. Since then, there have been no new strikes by American long-range missiles on Russia. Just like the Oreshnik strike on Kyiv announced by Putin.
