During an unannounced visit to Kyiv, the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, Yoko Kamikawa, plans to discuss preparations for the conference on the economic recovery of Ukraine. Representatives of Tokyo emphasize that the purpose of the visit is to support Ukraine in the difficult international situation and to discuss efforts aimed at achieving lasting peace.
Kamikawa plans to hold consultations with the Ukrainian side regarding the details of the conference scheduled for February in Tokyo, where Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal is expected to participate. In addition, during the visit, she will take part in the "handover ceremony of powerful energy equipment to help prepare for winter."
Japan, which is part of the Big Seven (G7), already applies sanctions against Russia in connection with aggression against Ukraine and provides financial and humanitarian aid. It is noted that constitutional restrictions support Japan's pacifist position, which prevents the direct supply of weapons to Ukraine.
