The head of the Federation of Metallurgists, Serhii Bilenkyi, expressed serious concern about the government's decision, according to which enterprises that want to avoid fan power outages must purchase 80% of electricity abroad. Belenky emphasized that such conditions are unrealistic for most enterprises and may lead to their closure.
"This decision will greatly harm energy-intensive industries, especially metallurgy, and will lead to the shutdown of industry... Enterprises will have to reduce the number of employees, and this, in turn, will lead to an increase in unemployment and, accordingly, to an increase in electricity consumption by the population," he explained.
"Thus, the effect of saving electricity by industry will be neutralized, and the preferential price for the population will only exacerbate financial problems in the electricity market," Bilenky added.
