The Chairman of the Council of Reservists of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Ivan Tymochko, expressed his support for the military training of women in Ukraine, stressing that training and preparation for resistance can significantly strengthen the country's defense capabilities. According to him, it is important to prepare the population, regardless of gender, to increase the readiness and ability to protect.
"Will it be necessary to call on women now? And why not prepare them, teach them? It is not necessary to call for it," he said, emphasizing that military training for women can become a key element of Ukraine's security.
Ivan Tymochko emphasized that the better educated the population is, the greater the readiness for interaction and coordination, which in turn affects the desire of a potential aggressor to carry out offensive actions. By preparing the population for the worst possible scenarios, it is possible to reduce risks and better prepare to defend the country.
The position on the mobilization of women in Ukraine
According to the current legislation of Ukraine, the mobilization of women into the army is possible only with voluntary consent. Currently, women with a medical or pharmaceutical specialty aged 18 to 60 are required to register for military service. The issue of compulsory service for women has not yet been discussed. However, Ukraine's ambassador to Great Britain Valery Zaluzhny recently said that in the event of the need to protect Europe, women can be called up to the ranks of the Armed Forces.
Today, about 68,000 women serve in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, of which more than 48,000 are military personnel. About 5,000 women are directly in the combat zone, which demonstrates the high level of their participation in the defense of the country.
