Ukraine is confidently preparing for a difficult winter, and although long frosts down to -20 degrees will have their effect on the power system, they will not become a critical threat. The biggest challenge to energy stability is Russian shelling. This was stated by the Minister of Energy Herman Galushchenko.
According to Galushchenko, the energy system of Ukraine currently works stably, despite the seasonal cooling.
"The temperature has dropped, there are no restrictions. The biggest thing that will affect it is not even the temperature, but, unfortunately, shelling. If the temperature is minus 15-20 degrees and lasts for a long time, it will certainly affect the situation, but it will not become dramatic," the minister emphasized.
Frosts, even the most severe, are less dangerous for energy than missile strikes from Russia. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy also noted that the Russian strategy is aimed at undermining the morale of Ukrainians through attacks on the energy infrastructure:
"Russia continues combined strikes, accumulates forces and production. Its goal is to cause blackouts that cause public dissatisfaction," Zelenskyy emphasized.
Ukraine is actively preparing for the winter period, attracting international support to strengthen the energy system. The help of partners, including equipment and funding, allows to minimize the impact of weather and military factors.
The Minister of Energy emphasized that every Ukrainian should prepare for the challenges of winter, but believe in the stability of the country and the energy system.
