The Ukrainian government has announced plans to reduce the number of ministries in the country and implement the “Diya” program to improve the performance of civil servants. In addition, the Cabinet of Ministers is working to create a Government Center to coordinate support administrative functions.
This was stated by Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal during a press conference. "The President announced that we are working on changing the format of the government, that is, reducing the number of ministries. We want to reduce the number of ministries by a third, reduce the number of civil servants," he said.
According to him, 20,000 civil service vacancies have already been reduced this year.
Shmyhal also noted that the Cabinet of Ministers is working on creating the Government Center, where auxiliary administrative functions will be concentrated.
He explained that ministries should formulate policies, and the Center for Government, in turn, will provide legal, personnel, accounting, and other support.
“We are also working on introducing the so-called “Action” for civil servants,” the head of government said.
On February 25, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that the administrative apparatus may be reduced in the future due to a shortage of funds for its financing.
"We have this conversation with the Prime Minister, and it is based solely on the shortage of money. If the corresponding shortage continues, we will do everything to ensure that the infrastructure, and this is not just about the Cabinet of Ministers, that the infrastructure of our state's administration is reduced. There is such a format, we are prepared for it," Zelensky said.
He emphasized that we are talking about reducing the number of ministries, ministers, and more coordinated management.
