Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that providing long-range weapons to the Ukrainian army could change the course of the war with Russian occupation forces.
Zelensky told journalist Bruno Vespi about this during an interview for the Italian TV channel Rai 1. In particular, the president was asked whether the course of the war could have been changed if all the promised weapons had arrived in Ukraine and Germany had handed over its long-range missiles.
Zelensky said that Ukraine has promised not to use long-range missiles in any territory, except for the temporarily occupied parts of Ukraine by Russia. “We have a shortage and lack of various ammunition, including long-range ones. Of course, when you have such a shortage, our goal is to de-occupy our lands and end the war. And having strong weapons, sometimes, you know, it may not come to the point of using some weapons, because certain enemy troops are afraid if you use this or that weapon. They retreat,” Zelensky said.
The Head of State gave an example of what Ukraine managed to achieve in the Black Sea, when the Russians began to lose many ships and withdrew their fleet from Russian territorial waters. “The same example could change what you asked about – and the course of the war on land. If you have the appropriate weapons and you can respond to the Russian army, which uses long-range weapons in your civilian cities, for example, in Kherson. They are standing on the other bank of the Dnieper. And their long-range is stronger than ours. They shoot artillery over 20 km, and we have an artillery shell up to 20 km. And imagine, if you have long-range weapons – you can knock them out further. And they themselves, they are inexperienced people, many of them are afraid. And if our weapons reached there – they would also retreat,” Zelensky emphasized.
The President emphasized that long-range weapons could change the course of the war and help Ukraine move forward.
