According to the Ukrainian Foreign Minister, if another country suffered from this level of energy destruction, its situation would be much worse.
Half of Ukraine's energy infrastructure has been damaged by Russian shelling, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said in an interview with Foreign Policy published on May 1.
Responding to a journalist's question about the impact the US aid package had on the government's morale, Kuleba noted that Ukrainian morale would have been even higher if the package had included a Patriot battery.
“Such an introduction of the Patriot battery would certainly raise the morale of the Ukrainian military and the people of Ukraine. If the package, which was announced immediately after the adoption of the law, had included the Patriot battery, it would have mobilized public support even more strongly, since Ukrainians are particularly suffering from missile attacks from Russia,” Kuleba said.
Meanwhile, the minister emphasized that in the event of a similar situation in the energy sector in another country, things could look even worse.
“Russian ballistic missiles are the real scourge of this war. Recently, they have been used mainly to destroy our energy system. I mean, if another country had suffered such large-scale energy destruction, its condition would be much worse than Ukraine’s. We are strong because we have learned many important lessons. We are resilient, we understand how high the stakes are. However, to explain this to your viewers, half of our energy system is damaged, and we still continue to run the country, conduct military operations, and gain support from all over the world,” Kuleba explained.
