A court in Kharkiv region has sentenced a 56-year-old man who received three draft summonses but refused to perform his duties. The court found him guilty of evading military service and sentenced him to three years in prison.
According to the case, in March 2024, the man was declared fit for mobilization. Over the following months, he received three “combat” summonses, but categorically refused mobilization, claiming that he had medical indications that allowed him to avoid service. In particular, the man referred to a disease discovered while undergoing military service after completing compulsory military service in 1990-1992.
At the trial, the man pleaded not guilty and tried to prove his unfitness for service due to health reasons. However, the court, taking into account his position, refused to recognize the accused's testimony as reliable. The court noted that the man did not contest the conclusions of the military medical commission, which confirmed his fitness for mobilization.
As a result, the court found him guilty of a crime under the article on evasion of military service and sentenced him to three years in prison.
