The projected decline in Ukraine’s population to 15.3 million by 2100 indicates the country’s ongoing demographic transformation. This projected number is a significant decrease compared to Ukraine’s current population, which is estimated to exceed 41 million, according to the latest data.
This is stated in the UN report "World Population Prospects 2024".
The UN also predicts that in 2084 there will be a maximum level of humanity in this century - 10.3 billion people, and by 2100 the number of people will decrease to 10.2 billion.
The report also states that the average life expectancy by the end of the 21st century will be 81.7 years.
At the same time, men, on average, will live a little less than 80 years, women - almost 84 years. Recall, Ukraine remains one of the countries with the lowest birth rate in the world. Before the full-scale war, in 2021, the birth rate was 1.16 - this is lower than the natural reproduction rate (2.1–2.2), and also significantly lower than the local maximum in 2012 (1.53).
It was also reported that Ukraine has developed a draft demographic development strategy until 2040.
