Ukrainian cities could face a large-scale heating collapse this winter if the situation does not change. This statement was made by the head of the Union of Consumers of Public Utilities, Oleg Popenko, in an interview with the BBC, emphasizing that problems with heat supply are already being felt in some regions, such as Kryvyi Rih.
In Zelensky's hometown, about 130,000 residents were left without heating in November. There is no heat in dozens of schools, hospitals, and kindergartens.
That's two thousand homes. According to the Minister of Community Development Oleksiy Kuleba, 523 remained without heat as of yesterday.
Popenko believes that the situation could repeat itself in Kyiv, Kharkiv, Lviv, Sumy, Kherson, Kropyvnytskyi, or Svitlovodsk.
"When pipes are not replaced for decades, this is what happens. There comes a time when they burst in many places at the same time. There have been problems with heating in Kryvyi Rih before. But this year they decided not to do anything. They broke the pipes in the summer, and they did nothing. Naftogaz did not allocate money, the local authorities removed themselves," the expert says.
