The Russian Federation is likely preparing for a massive strike on Ukraine on Independence Day, August 24. This was reported by the head of the Center for Military-Legal Studies, Oleksandr Musienko, in an interview with RBC-Ukraine. The expert drew attention to several signs indicating possible aggression from the Kremlin.
Musienko noted that Russia is actively conducting strategic aviation training flights, which is a cause for concern. "There are risks. They cannot be neglected. There are signs that Russia is preparing for a strike," he noted.
In particular, according to Musienko, Russia continues to stockpile missiles and its aircraft are conducting flights, which is likely due to the need to redeploy aircraft due to attacks by Ukrainian drones on Russian military airfields. One of these airfields, Olenya in northern Russia, has already suffered from Ukrainian attacks.
Musienko also stressed that in the conditions of the accumulation of missiles, Russia may be ready for a large-scale attack. "Stocks are being prepared. That is, the enemy usually has the opportunity to carry out such a strike," he added. According to the expert, Russia may have about 100 missiles ready for use.
The expert drew particular attention to the fact that on August 23, on the eve of Ukraine's Independence Day, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi plans to visit Kyiv. Musienko believes that Ukraine's active diplomatic activities, in particular establishing contacts with the Global South, may become an additional motive for the Kremlin.
The expert noted that Russia traditionally resorts to shelling on the eve or after significant dates for Ukraine. Therefore, the period around Independence Day is especially risky. Musienko added that warnings from the US about possible attacks may not be just a formality, but a serious signal of threat.
