Holiday on October 17: what not to do and what good deeds bring happiness to the home

Today, the Orthodox Church commemorates the memory of the prophet Hosea and the holy martyr Andrew of Crete. This is not only a day of spiritual veneration, but also a symbolic date that carries deep meanings, especially for women. It is believed that this day is filled with special energy that helps to find inner peace, strengthen faith and attract prosperity to the home.

Hosea lived in the 8th century BCE in the Northern Kingdom of Israel. His life became an allegory of the relationship between God and humanity. Hosea's marriage to a woman named Gomer symbolized God's tolerance and love for people, even when they turn to sin and idolatry. This image inspires believers not to give up in difficult times, but to seek spiritual enlightenment through faith and repentance.

The Monk-Martyr Andrew was born in Damascus around 660. He was mute from childhood, but after his first Communion he miraculously spoke. His path is an example of spiritual fortitude: a strict monastic life, deep study of the Holy Scriptures, and a fearless stand against iconoclasm, which ended in martyrdom. His most famous creation was the Great Penitential Canon, a prayer for deep purification of the soul.
