On the eve of Easter 2025, Ukrainians will once again face rising prices for basic food products - bread, eggs, and meat. This was announced by Deputy Chairman of the All-Ukrainian Agrarian Council Denys Marchuk during a briefing at the Ukraina media center. According to him, food inflation has already exceeded 13% and continues to grow.
This year, Easter falls on the same date for Eastern and Western Christians – April 20. Demand for food is increasing, putting even more pressure on prices. This is especially true for those categories of goods that are traditionally part of the Easter basket.
"Product prices will increase not only due to inflation, but also due to problems with logistics and the increase in the cost of energy resources. Added to this is the high demand, which is typical before holidays such as Easter," Marchuk noted.
Bread and bakery products
According to the expert, during 2024, bread prices have already increased by 20%. And this trend will only continue. The price is affected not only by the cost of grain, but also by the dollar exchange rate, the increase in the cost of electricity and delivery. So in the coming weeks, bread and pastries may add a few more percent to the price.
Eggs
Ukrainians felt the most painful increase in prices precisely in the category of eggs. On the eve of Easter, they will increase in price by about 10%, analysts predict. The main reason is the cost of feed and seasonal demand. But after the holidays, a seasonal decrease in price by 20–30% is possible - due to an increase in supply from private households.
Meat
Meat products are another category that traditionally increases in price after the end of Lent. This trend will continue this year. The cost of beef and pork may increase closer to the holidays and in early May. Decreasing livestock numbers and high production costs due to grain and feed prices remain the decisive factors.
Although some goods may become slightly cheaper after Easter, the general trend in the market remains unfavorable for the buyer. According to Marchuk, Ukrainians should be prepared for the fact that the situation with food prices in 2025 will remain difficult. Although the government is introducing new control tools (in particular, price caps), they have not yet had a systemic effect.
Ukrainians are advised to plan their purchases in advance to avoid price spikes on the eve of the holiday. However, even with early purchases, you should expect a significant increase in spending on an Easter basket compared to last year.
