Weak magnetic activity will be observed in Ukraine in the coming days. According to the forecast of the NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center, the geomagnetic situation will remain stable, without sharp jumps, but people sensitive to weather changes may still feel the impact.
Three-day forecast
-
May 25 (Saturday) – K-index 1.6. Geomagnetic situation is calm.
-
May 26 (Sunday) – K-index 2.67. Light activity, no impact on infrastructure.
-
May 27 (Monday) – K-index 2.67. The magnetic field is stable, no storm is forecast.
Even at a “green” level of geomagnetic activity, people with chronic diseases or increased meteosensitivity may experience fatigue, headaches, or irritability.
What are magnetic storms?
A magnetic storm is the reaction of the Earth's magnetic field to solar activity. When the Sun releases a large number of charged particles, they reach the planet and change the parameters of the magnetosphere. These changes can cause disruptions in GPS, communications, satellites, and also affect people's well-being.
The strength of a magnetic storm is measured on a scale of 1 to 9, known as the K-index. Values below 5 are considered safe, while values above 5 are considered potentially dangerous.
How to protect yourself during magnetic activity?
Experts advise:
-
Stick to your daily routine – get enough sleep, don’t overload your body.
-
Avoid alcohol, caffeine, and fatty foods - these foods put a strain on blood vessels.
-
Drink more water and, if possible, light herbal teas.
-
Spend time outdoors, avoid direct sunlight.
-
Avoid conflicts and stress, maintain emotional balance.
-
Control chronic diseases, have the necessary medications at hand.
A contrast shower in the morning will help to maintain tone, and a warm bath in the evening to relax.
Although the upcoming magnetic storms are expected to be weak, even minor activity could affect those sensitive to changes in the environment. Stay calm, take care of yourself, and monitor forecasts regularly.
