On November 28, Ukraine suffered another massive attack by the Russian occupiers. Energy infrastructure facilities came under attack again, further deepening the country's energy crisis.
According to the executive director of the non-governmental organization “Institute for Sustainable Development of Ukraine,” even before the latest wave of shelling, more than 40% of Ukraine’s generating capacity had been destroyed or captured. This data is reported by The New York Times .
Energy losses affect not only the provision of electricity to Ukrainian households, but also the operation of critical infrastructure that requires a stable supply of electricity.
Oleksandr Kharchenko, director of the Energy Research Center, noted that it will take years for Ukraine to restore its energy capacity.
“We are forced to state that in the near future we will be limited in generating capacities for at least three to four years until we build new ones,” said Kharchenko.
According to the Ukrainian Air Force, Russian forces launched 188 airstrikes, including dozens of drones and missiles of various types. The widespread destruction prompted emergency power outages in many regions of the country.
The words of US President Joe Biden, who called the shelling "horrible" and assured that the US supports Ukraine, attracted particular attention from the international community.
